Comic-Con 2010: Capcom News
Street Fighter X Tekken, SFIII Online Edition, Marvel Vs Capcom 3.
August 6th, 2010
If you've not been able to drag yourself away from Starcraft 2 recently, you may have missed some of the gaming news from Comic-Con. Most exciting were some of the surprise announcements from Capcom.

Okay, to be fair, the Capcom/Namco crossover was kind of leaked. But it was still fantastic to see Street Fighter IV producer Yoshinori Ono and Tekken 6 producer Kazuya Mishima appear on stage together and announce two games. TWO GAMES!

Coming first is Street Fighter X Tekken from the Street Fighter IV team, drawing Tekken characters such as Kazuya Mishima and Nina Williams into the Street Fighter world. Fighting will take place on the 2D plane and the Tekken fighters will be reworked to better fit the Street Fighter art style.
Capcom's trailer showed Kazuya and Nina facing off against Ryu and Chun-Li, all but confirming tag-team battles and faster looking combos than Street Fighter IV. Although its still far too early to read too much into what the final experience will be like.
Once Street Fighter X Tekken is released from Capcom, it will be followed by Tekken X Street Fighter from Namco Bandai. Details are even scarcer on the Namco title, but it is expected to be the exact opposite of Capcom's title, placing Street Fighter's familiar combatants in the Tekken world - 3D fighting gameplay intact.
Perhaps most exciting is that these two established game producers appear to be engaging in a development duel. Neither will be allowed to see each other's game during development, and are each hoping to make the better game. Hopefully their public competition will bring the best output from either studio to date - and we get to be the judge.

Don't expect to find out anytime soon though. Street Fighter X Tekken is not expected until 2012, which means we may not see Tekken X Street Fighter until 2013!
If two new fighters weren't enough, Yoshinori Ono went on to announce Street Fighter III is coming back. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition will be a downloadable title, following in the footsteps of the recently re-released Marvel Vs Capcom 2. Don't expect a HD re-draw (as if it was required!), but plentiful online options and digital download only. Again expect a wait. Get your feature requests into Capcom now.
Lastly, Marvel Vs Capcom 3 continues to woo us with its ever expanding roster. Early in the show Dr Doom, Super Skrull, Chun-Li and Trish (Devil May Cry) were unveiled, followed by The Mighty Thor and Amaterasu (Okami) at a later event.
In case you're not familiar with the villain Super Skrull on the Marvel side, he's a genetically engineered alien packing all four of the Fantastic Four's powers. Amaterasu is another welcome addition much requested by fans. Marvel Vs Capcom 3 continues to look like a worthy sequel indeed.
The fighting game renaissance continues... Thank you Street Fighter IV.
