E3 2010: Nintendo Keynote, Part Two
Nintendo 3DS Revealed!
June 16th, 2010
Following an impressive display of Wii titles, Nintendo finally unveiled the Nintendo 3DS confirming hardware features, games and all important 3rd party support.

Lets get straight to the hardware:

- Analog Stick & D-Pad
- 4 Front facing buttons
- Select/Home/Start Buttons
- Top-screen: 3.5" Widescreen 3D
- Bottom-screen: DS-like touch screen (stylus)
- Adjustable 3D depth slider, max to off
- Graphics improvements (?)
- Motion sensor, Gyro sensor
- DSi-like inner camera, 2-rear cameras (3D camera)
Not everything was clear from the unveiling, in particular the unspecified graphics improvements/screen resolution, but based on the games on show it appears to be around Wii quality graphics, albeit with stereoscopic visuals.

The two rear cameras allow the 3DS to take 3D photographs which can then be visualised on the upper screen. No word if these images can be exported or viewed elsewhere (file format?).
3D movie playback was also confirmed, with a number of Hollywood studios having trailers on show.
Interestingly, Nintendo's flagship launch title appears to be a new Kid Icarus title from a dedicated 3DS studio, Project Sora. While Shigeru Miyamoto was confirmed to be working on Nintendogs+cats for 3DS.
Following some positive commentary from industry luminaries such as Hideo Kojima, an impressive array of titles from 3rd parties were confirmed, but much fewer shown.
Confirmed titles include:
- Dead or Alive
- Ninja Gaiden
- Saints Row
- Kindom Hearts
- Final Fantasy
- Professor Layton
- Ridge Race
- Assassin's Creed
- Metal Gear Solid
- Street Fighter
- Resident Evil
- FIFA, Madden
- Sonic
- SuperMonkey Ball
...not bad.
A revolutionary 3D display isn't the easiest thing to demonstrate on a giant stage. Does it work? Who knows. Expect to hear interesting things from the show floor.
