E3 2010: Sony Keynote
Strong showing from Sony with a number of reveals.
June 16th, 2010
Along with doing their best to convince us 3D gaming is the future, and not just a reason to buy a new Bravia, there were a couple of surprise announcements. And a whole load of exclusive content from 3rd parties.
Following Nintendo's content filled presentation earlier in the morning, Sony came out to remind everyone they're not going anywhere.

They dived straight into 3D gaming, now a key differentiator for the PS3 platform. All though a number of titles had already been announced, the amount of 3D content was impressive with Killzone 3, Motorstorm, Ghost Recon, Tron and Mortal Kombat being shown.

Next was a surprise title, Sorcery. A 3D and Move title expected to be a Move launch title, featuring witchcraft and wizardry clearly Harry Potter inspired. The Move powered spell casting looks promising.

Move launches in the US on September 19th, but actually expected earlier in Europe and up to a month later in Japan?! $50 dollars for the main controller, $30 for the sub-controller or $100 for the controller/obligatory-sports-compilation bundle. Console bundle confirmed too, $399.

Shifting back into classic 2D, Sony continued to show Move support with a quick demo from EA Sports - Tiger Woods 11. Nuff said.

One of the surprise announcements though was a new Time Crisis title. Proving popular on the Wii, Sony's flagship light gun game should be a welcome addition to the Move line-up.

Following a brief reminder the PSP still exists, and will get a new Patapon and God of War title before year end, amongst 70 others, a couple of bombs were dropped.

Playstation Plus (Premium PSN) announced. Nothing changes for existing users, but additional content will be offered for those that opt to pay the $50/£40 per year subscription. As well as an auto-download/update service... There's probably something good in there. Give it time.

Dead Space 2 is coming to PS3 with an exclusive limited edition including the entire Dead Space Extraction on-rails gun game reworked with Move support.

Portal 2 on PS3 is going to be the "best console version". Fact (Valve said it). And is bringing some unspecified Steam support, clearly having a dig at Microsoft's reluctance to allow 3rd parties to extend the game experience and community the way they're able to on PC.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, exclusive single-player level. Mafia II exclusive content. See the pattern?

Final Fantasy IV was also shown before Gran Turismo 5 got its moment. 3D, probably a bit of Move thrown in and finally a release date - November 2nd.

Lastly, Twisted Metal is coming 2011. David Jaffe (God of War) got on stage for the reveal.

That's the big three done. Lot's of cool stuff coming from the show floor. We'll be taking a closer at a few titles when the dust settles.
