VGA 2011: Announcements
The Video Game Awards 2011 play host to a number of announcements.

This year marks the 9th event from US cable TV channel Spike, which has been gathering more and more attention as the industry it celebrates has grown. Being televised (worldwide via the web), it has become an ideal opportunity for publishers to preview new and upcoming games through dramatic trailers. And for every self-professed video game loving celebrity to get in front of a camera.

GAMEfest 2011
Retail giant gives UK gamers a chance to play upcoming releases.

Today marks the end of GAMEfest 2011. The first of a new consumer video game show from UK high-street games retailer, GAME. With the first opportunity to get hands-on with some of the hottest upcoming releases, GAMEfest had no problem attracting 30,000 visitors to The NEC, Birmingham. We were there.

E3 2011: Nintendo Press Conference
Nintendo confirms some excellent 2011 releases and new console for 2012.
We approach Nintendo’s event with baited breath, knowing for the first time since 2005, a new home console will be unveiled. Which the world now knows to be the Nintendo Wii U.

E3 2011: Sony Press Conference
Sony let us know what we can look forward to from PlayStation.
Still recovering from the PR disaster that was the PSN downtime, Sony came out fighting featuring Uncharted, Resistance 3 and BioShock: Infinite, while re-introducing the NGP as PlayStation Vita.

E3 2011: Microsoft Press Conference
Microsoft kicked off E3 with a Kinect heavy presentation.
Never ones to pull punches since the launch of Xbox 360, Microsoft put on a show to remember featuring a range of new game announcements and updates. Some more predictable than others, but we get not one but TWO new Halo titles.

Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City, HD Remakes
Capcom announce HD re-releases and prequel Operation Racoon City.
Following much rumour, Capcom finally confirmed that Resident Evil 4 (2005) will get a HD re-release, along with the popular Dreamcast game, Resident Evil: Code Veronica (2000). Both are coming to XBLA and PSN (download-only) later this year. More surprisingly, Capcom also announced prequel title Operation Racoon City for full retail release around the same time.
