PixelJunk SideScroller
Super stylish shooter, from the arcade of the future.

What should be an exciting prospect for anyone picking up a PS3 is access to Q Games series of PixelJunk games. Although they have recently started branching out — such as PixelJunk Monsters’ appearance on Facebook, or PixelJunk Eden on Steam — the largely exclusive collection of retro-like titles sets a quality standard on SEN (formerly PSN). Based on a bonus level from PixelJunk Shooter 2, PixelJunk SideScroller stands apart as one of the best technical shoot ‘em ups I’ve ever played.

Bionic Commando Rearmed
The original proof that remakes can be a good idea.

I’m quite a fan of the more thoughtful remakes to hit Xbox Live Arcade. There’s definitely fun to be had with the straight ports and re-releases, but there’s something about the successful modernising of a classic that I just can’t get enough of. Bionic Commando: Rearmed set a new standard at the time of it’s release.

Rage
Post apocalyptic whatever.

id Software is responsible for numerous years of my life being consumed running around hallways looking for keys. Fact is, I’m not a single bit upset that this happened. I revel in their mastery of the subtle art of time consumption and with Rage they aim to do that in a post apocalyptic setting.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Getting sidetracked has never been so much fun.

I am a huge fan of RPG’s, though I feel slightly ashamed to admit it. Being recommended a couple of games when I first picked up my Xbox a few years ago, the one that really grabbed me by the man parts was Fallout 3. Having finished that game 100% I was left wanting more, so when I learnt Oblivion was basically the same game set in a medieval fantasyland I leapt at the chance to spend any spare moment I got hunting, stealing and conjuring my time away in the world of Elder Scrolls.

Batman: Arkham City
Batman returns with the key to Arkham City.

Producing a follow-up to the hit super hero action game Batman: Arkham Asylum must have been a quite a challenge, but it's one that developer Rocksteady have not taken lightly. Building on the original action-stealth-puzzler-beat ‘em up, they have fleshed out the action with many more side missions. The game world is much bigger, or at least seems so. Alas, there is no secret bat cave to be found, but the flow of the game is much better.

Child of Eden
Wave goodbye to your senses.

After being thoroughly uninspired by the range of Kinect launch titles, I was left feeling pretty skeptical that Child of Eden would live up to my expectations. Thankfully I was wrong. Q Entertainment’s synesthesia inducing shooter is finally a good reason to get up off the sofa. Gaming wise, I mean.
